
25-year-old dies after falling out of moving car, police say

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A woman accused of killing an elderly pedestrian in Hillsborough County has turned herself in to authorities, the sheriff’s office said.On July 26 at about 12:30 a.m., deputies received a call about an incident on of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard at the intersection of North 43rd Street.Deputies found Francisco Lugo, 82, unresponsive. Despite efforts by deputies and paramedics, Lugo died at the scene.Detectives believe Lugo was in the intersection, using a walker, when he was struck by a dark-colored Kia Sorento traveling northbound. The driver left the scene without stopping to render aid or report the collision.Detectives say they identified the vehicle and its driver, Danielle Grant, 34. After a warrant was issued, Grant turned herself in at the Orient Road Jail Thursday night, the sheriff’s office said.Grant has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.This remains an active investigation.
